This was a gift for someone, I didn’t use it but it seemed like it was a great book.

I read this book in a bookstore. The recommendation to get your fiber through a supplement is really beyond the pale. How about broccoli, bananas, yams, prunes, and other REAL food? Yet another book that does readers a huge disservice by steering readers away from good food. Steer clear.

I never recieved my perchase after a month. I would have to say that when I wrote and I never got a response thats very unperfessional. Iknow the mail is slow but it can’t be that slow.

I didn’t buy this book because I wanted to look through it first so I stopped in the bookstore to read it before buying it. It was 24. 95 in B&N for the hardcover so the price on Amazon really is good.
The first thing I did was read through the way she figures out if you are supposed to be on a low carb diet or a high carb/low fat diet. I knew that I would be of the low carb type so I then looked up that diet. For breakfast every day I would make a smoothie of laxative, fruit, peanut butter, yogurt and cottage cheese. Some mornings the recipe is different, for example, a pumpkin smoothie. I don’t enjoy smoothies and don’t drink them normally and would NEVER take a laxative first thing in the morning, what a terrible idea! No wonder you’d lose weight on this diet!

This book is a great start if you’ve had troubles in the past with loosing weight and keeping it off. However, with any diet or any book about dieting it should serve merely as a reference, not a Bible. I’ve always had problems loosing weight and after my pregnancy it became impossible. I did not know that this was because my body just does not process carbs effectively – although I had a sneaking suspicion. This is something the book walks you through from the science behind it to the experiment you do with your breakfasts to determine if you are intolerant to carbs.
It has helped me determine my “perfect” weight by standards other than BMI, although I do not aim to achieve that weight, but it also helped me find a diet that works and a workout plan that is beneficial to me. I have been using this as a guide for almost two weeks now and have lost 5 inches off my waist (alone). Because I don’t believe in a strict monitoring of my measurements, I do not know how much weight I’ve lost, but I do know I fit into old clothes again. All of this was done without the glucomannen. I suppose I will use the supplement if I need help with the last 10 lbs, but to have a diet more balanced in protein, fiber, and fat has worked just fine. Glucomannen is considered a “super fiber” and has been around for thousands of years, it may feel like a laxative at first but that is because it’s cleaning out your system, like any high fiber diet will do and it is necessary for every person. I did the research because adding supplements because someone told you too is just unsafe if you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.
The suggested foods list for each diet is amazing, it makes going grocery shopping easier and although I don’t follow the diet strictly (they give a 14 day plan) I do use the recipes and portion size recommendations. This book was very well researched and very well thought out. Written by women, for women it talks at length about our bodies, how they react to certain types of food and why those foods are good for us. Like fat. I used to buy everything low fat but I’ve seen the light and know now that fats are important if done right. Buy this book, you won’t be disappointed. Even if you don’t adhere to the diet, it gives you a great starting point.
